Physical Foundation of a Data Center Refresh

Data centers are not built to last forever. Data centers will need to refresh when servers go from productive to nonproductive approximately every four years.
A regional cinema operator has been in the industry for decades. The management is seeking to engage in a data center refresh project. This project is to address new business needs of data storage and to comply with the new cyber-security mechanism.

Project Scope

The organization can no longer buy service contracts keep the aging infrastructures and equipment running and online. Hence, Beaqon is contracted to propose and provide equipment and solution for the data center upgrade.
  • Uninterruptible Power Source (UPS)
  • Power disruptions will interfere with workloads or even cripple server hardware. Hence a reliable UPS must deliver adequate power to run the load long enough to restore utility power or to shut down fully.
  • In-Row Cooling
  • In-Row cooling is targeted cooling at the banks of server cabinets that fill the data center. The cooling structures are installed on the floor, making them close to the server racks which precisely cools and conditions the air. With neither the cool or warm exhaust air to travel, it allows the units to dissipate high heat loads faster. Such setup offers both capacity and efficiency gains.
  • Power Distribution Unit (PDU)
  • Protection and optimized power distribution begin with a reliable PDU for the data center. It ensures energy flows steadily to every device inside the rack cabinet. A Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) card is installed to enable remote monitoring of the units. The units come equipped with branch circuit breaker protection for safety, has a convenient LED current display and overload warning indicator.
  • Cable Containment System
  • We recommend overhead routing solutions to the data center due to space restrictions if we apply underfloor systems. We utilized an enclosed cable containment system and defined the cables using distinctive blue containment, providing protection against compression and ensuring the minimum bend radius of the cables.
